Innanzitutto, quali sono le mie possibilità di essere perseguito penalmente se inizio a gestire l’esenzione in questo momento? E in secondo luogo, se decidono di perseguitarmi, è irrilevante se resto semplicemente in Canada?

If you just stay out of Finland untill you are 30 years old there will be no repercussions.

Have you been livin in Finland during past 7 years? If not you should be automatically excempted from service, this all would be in error, and no application is required.

I wonder how you got into this situation. It is probably most convenient to stay away from Finland until you are 30 years old.

Sounds like a scam, there are no deserts in Finland.

How old are you, how long have you lived in Canada, do you have dual citizenship, and do you care about Finnish citizenship?

I had to go through this a decade ago when I needed to renew my Finnish passport. I had to email the military and request an exemption based on having lived in Canada for over 7 years. I always knew I would move back to Finland so I explained that I would be open to serving if I moved back before I turned 30 but needed an exemption to get my passport renewed.

Just be honest and keep your explanation concise.

  5. There isn’t enough data to say. You didn’t mention anything about your own circumstances and what lead to this.

However, broadly speaking unintentionally deserting when you have never lived in Finland rarely leads into criminal prosecution if the person proactively resolves the matter.

And in cases where they are convicted the most common punishment is fines.
