What other Finnish movie titles contain hints that could be seen as spoilers?

That was the case with the first home video editions. Later editions are simply titled *Avain pakoon*, without the Rita Hayworth spoiler. This has been discussed to death on various forums during the years.

Why was the spoiler included? Because Finland has an established history of naming films based on books after the translated book title or some close variation of it. The title of King’s original novella which the film is based on is *Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption*. If the author saw it fit to include a spoiler in the title, it’s a good enough title for the film too.

If you think the hole-in-a-wall-behind-the-poster plot point gives something away, you didn’t understand the film. The audience knows Andy is going to escape. *Shawshank* is not a prison break movie even though it’s set in a prison and one of the main characters escapes from said prison.

There’s lot of weird “translations” especially from 80-90s movies because at that time they weren’t actual translations.

For the finnish audience they invented whole new names for the movies, the point wasn’t to give exact translation but a name in finnish.
