They are probably Per and Pål, the brothers of Espen Askeladd. They are reoccuring characters in many Norwegian fairytales. Askeladden is smart and quick, so he’s always the won who wins the princess and half the kingdom, while his brothers get nothing.

I can’t recall what specific fairytale this is though.
