Yup, stuff like this happens sometimes. There are quite a few coins that looks similar to euros. Can’t always catch it.

Happened to me too as a cashier, only noticed because it is a slightly different size and I spotted it in my row of coins. Luckily I noticed because of the way my till was set up, but the customer who gave it to me definitely didn’t and I also missed it for presumably a few hours.
It’s Bulgarian currency and looks deceivingly similar to 2€ coins, if you would’ve noticed straight away it could’ve been fixed but I’m not surprised nobody noticed the mistake.
