    !housing

A landlord offering an apartment to a foreigner not currently in Germany is already suspicious, yes.

Read the section about scams in the wiki.

  2. Looks like an identity theft scam to me. Especially since the building is not in that address. But also their phrasing and that they repeated the information about the bathroom.

The bathroom thing itself seems a bit odd as well. I don’t know of any apartments that would have that and then have tiny shared kitchen.

Telegram / WhatsApp and renting to foreigners = immediate scam.

If you‘re offered an apartment without seeing it in person, it’s always 100% a scam

I don’t like that he doesn’t want to do a call/online room tour.

100% Scam. Personally I’d love to see his reaction when you tell him you’re trying to find the appartment building on Google Maps, but are struggling to find anything like it at that address…

My thought, if you have to ask the answer is yes (in the case of scams)

“Hold” is one of the giveaways… nobody says that except scammers and probably harks back to telephone scamming days where they would say please hold

The chance, that this is a scam is at about…… 150%

In the best scenario, they are just after your data, but they will always als be after your money.

Block him and report the ad.

Is a scam. They’ll say pay the caution and then we’ll send the key. Ofc they never do and money is gone.

There are a few hotels that offer monthly rent (I think about 900-1000€ per month, check Contel or Atlanta). Maybe use that or Airbnb for 2-4 weeks to check places in person.

Also even if the apartment and deal are sound, that area in Kranichstein is not the greatest and I would not recommend it.

Never pay or sign any contract prior to seeing the place in person. The demand for housing is so high that no landlord would do what is shown in the conversation as they have plenty of people interested

Even if it wasn’t a scam, this literally the worst part/ building in all of Darmstadt. I wouldn’t move there even if I got payed to do so

Ask for a personal visit. Pretty sure it’s a scam and he will deny it.
