Absolutely cannot stand the Burkes, but on an institutional level the barristering system is the worst thing about Ireland. It is a closed shop and their services are a tax on the nation. You will not meet a more self-satisfied, smug set of overfed gobshites anywhere. The barrister system as it stands in Ireland is an anachronism and even the British are evolving away from it. The idea that a solicitor cannot represent you in court is an absurdity and the requirement to use their services is a tax upon the populace.

He absolutely *is* being discriminated against – he’s being treated as though he is a highly unreliable individual from an unstable family that are nationally infamous for suing their employers, picketing their former places of work and generating media circuses around them. He is also being treated as though he has been forcefully removed from court by 5 gardaà for being disruptive and abusive.
