If Keir Starmer is a strong leader, he’ll announce that no one in the party will accept donations or gifts from Waheed Alli anymore, and he will commission a review at the rules around declarations of donations, gifts and conflict of interests. He promised to be an adult back in the room, cleaning up politics, and this is his chance to fulfil that.

Please excuse me if this is ignorant but why do we allow MP’s to receive gifts/donations? it just seems like a murky idea to begin with but maybe I’m uninformed

Thankfully this article gives a little more info than the other thread just posted. He’s being investigated because a complaint was received, not because they (at this time) believe there is any wrongdoing. Political posturing (especially considering it’s the same body that are currently investigating Michelle Mone) with nothing new or substantial coming out.

MPs are well paid and shouldnt need to accept donations. Anyone with any training in this knows that no one gives a large gift unless they expect favours.
I’m always shocked how cheaply politicians sell the public out for. All rich already but lap up free concerts and other freebees.
