Misleading headline. The numbers are soaring and will increase with a wider war in the Middle East. If we carry on with illegal and legal migration like we are the average house price will be half a million for people on 35k income. What a lovely future for young people we’re creating.

“4,190 migrants arrived in September, down from 4,729 in 2023. It is the lowest since September 2020 when just 1,946 crossed”
Wow selling out to Murdoch worked for you lads. Err that’s still a lot with no housing to put them.

It’s also been a very wet summer / bad weather = choppy water.
Associated drowings and deaths have been high.
I’m more likely to believe that is more of a cause than “smashing the gangs”.

Lmao OK.
A fall in September 2024 compared to September 2020 by a measly 12%.
Now let’s look at the trend month by month from September 2020 to September 2024. Oh look, an explosive upward trend of illegal immigration.
The ‘legal’ migration numbers are even more worrisome.

As usual, there are people here reacting who don’t seem to have any setting but “cynical,” but it is promising. It’s shameful that it didn’t occur to the Tories to bust the gangs.
That said, the reality is that migrants are going to keep coming. This is the result of joining the US in destabilizing the Middle East by going into Iraq and Afghanistan (and against the explicit advice of the French, by the way, who are now being whinged at by Brits for not doing and paying even more than they already are to stop migrants from reaching the UK.
It’s time to have a grown-up conversation about immigration. Mass immigration has caused numerous serious problems. We all know what they are. But at the same time, the very people who whinge loudest benefit most from immigrants. We all saw what happened after the pandemic when EU workers went home because of Brexit. Working-class people finally got decent wages because they weren’t competing with hordes from overseas and that meant we had to pay more for everything. We can’t get NHS staff.
That’s the trade-off. We could, of course, pay to train our own professionals and pay them decently. The tradition in the UK though is to throw our own kids’ futures away by not providing sufficient university places and making education prohibitively expensive while thieving foreign professionals from their own taxpayers.
The reason that so many people in the UK can afford to live beyond their means (smoking, vaping, overseas holidays, etc) is that there are professional workers who are taken advantage of and paid shit. This is what keeps taxes and prices as low as they are.
The bottom line is that we either pay higher tax and higher prices and don’t have immigrants or we pay lower prices and do have immigrants. And thanks to Brexit, those immigrants won’t be from Europe.

It’s probably because the ones that came here first have been housed for free and given jobs, and most of the money they make they send home. Those receiving the money in their country don’t have to migrate here also.
I’ve worked at Nature’s Way Foods in Chichester and it’s full of migrants all doing the same thing.

They are also a grain of salt in a pot of soup in terms of total immigration numbers. Almost like deadbolting on that one thing is a vanity project that doesn’t do much of anything about anything and avoids talking about much more important money holes like, idk, tax evasion. But that would actually affect the rich, so we can’t have that, can we?

Ahhh, an article from The Sun being pro-labour. I wonder why, nothing to do with knowing something about Kier before the election, and agreeing not to publish it and being pro labour during the election in exchange for them…… well if you know, you know. It will be out before Christmas I’m sure, the second injunction won’t hold it for too long.

The Conservative said the same thing at this time last year (that the numbers were down by like 80% from last year)… but, weather is the key reason, not some halfwit policies that do nothing more than bandaid the problem..
We give millions to France to deal with the problem, id rather see that invested in better border control and deal with the problem directly ourselves.

Pretty sure the home sec can take exactly zero credit for this. Its not like the last govt werent trying, or all the various govt departments werent committed to this and actively doing things to stop it. What has the home sec actually done that will have made any change to the maschinations of the rest of the departments on the ground??

We are sure that Yvette Balls would be better equipped seeking guidance from Belgium Authorities over how they can rescue illegal migrants exiting from Belgium..compared with French Authorities who choose not to.

Neville Chamberlain, Mr “peace in our time” himself.
Viewed as hopelessly naive for appeasing Hitler, but in reality knew that the UK was not capable of going to war at that moment, and was prepping for the inevitable war in the background while talking to Hitler.
He bought time for the UK to get ready for WWII, a preparation which Churchill inherited.

Funny. When there’s good news, it’s not Labour’s doing, but when there’s bad news it’s because Labour are doing a bad job. At what point do people realise their mindset is one of cult mentality?
