I wonder what he’ll give away this time and what for. Lots of famous designers in Belgium. Or will a round of applause from a room of spectacled civil servants and some foreign media ego-stroking suffice?

    Here is a geopolitical perspective:

The world is entering quite hostile waters. Both sides want a deal, but of course, everyone tries to get as much as possible. The deadline is obviously the US election, and also its outcome. Should Trump win, the transatlantic alliance is likely to die or at least shatter. This is not about foreign policy, about wars he will start or not start, it is about principle. Trump has made repeatedly clear what kind of policy he likes to pursue, and it is an autocratic one. An alliance with such a powerful autocratic state necessarily would push ourselves more towards to, well let’s call it what the people behind Trump stand for, fascism. A Trump win would embolden corruption and people like Farage and elites ignoring the rule of law.

The UK likely wants as much market access as possible, while the EU seeks to bind the UK in foreign policy and defence. Additionally, the EU obviously will try to support and do as much for the remain population in the UK. It is a game of friendly powers. Both seek a permanent relationship (at least 1-2 decades).

If the EU perceives a Trump win, the UK would get a more favorable deal. If the EU perceives Kamala wins, the UK is not that important as Washington and Brussels have grown very fond of each other and close to each other. The not-anti-establishment Americans have made a deal with the not-anti-establishment people in Brussels about the future world order and how to split the world.

Nothing less than the future power structure is being negotiated right now! 🙂

Maybe he’s going there to discuss the handover of Gibraltar to Spain.

There will be a right wing government in this country. It’s inevitable, it’s just a matter of when.

And I mean proper right wing, not the Tories.

If only we were some sort of union with Europe that made trade and travel much more straightforward
