We could easily stop this by refusing any applications for people who make the crossing. Immediate detainment for anyone who does until we can verify their identity and deport them. Offshore processing at a secure facility in either a foreign country or one of our many islands. Applicants who have been refused in one or more EU countries should be immediately refused here too. No reapplications.

> The AFP news agency reported that a migrant boat heading towards Britain called for assistance on Saturday morning and rescuers picked up 14 people on board, including the child.
> An injured migrant on the boat was airlifted to a hospital in Boulogne, France, and the remaining passengers on the boat continued their journey, it reported.
Wild thinking but maybe when rescuers have to pick up the body of a trampled child from a boat, that boat trip should be cancelled.

It’s disgusting that parents are willing to risk their children’s lives on these dangerous crossings, they’re already safe in France.

when will Kier Starmer DO something ? he cancelled the Rwanda scheme after peering into Rachel Reeves’s black hole, but what is next?

Aside from the obvious issues of all these migrants making their way over here, you have to wonder how bad things are for them to make this life or death journey…… putting kids in these boats tells me that this is an all or nothing trip for many of them.
It will keep increasing over the coming years, too. It will turn into a game of one upping the other, and the flow of people won’t stop. I’m not sure our government has the resources needed to put a stop to this.

Why aren’t the smugglers immediately incarcerated when they land, is there just not enough police to notice until they’ve sailed off again? Seems mad that they aren’t just getting 10 year sentences each time for human trafficking.

The reality is this is just one more risk in an already risky journey. They could easily have died before getting to France, so the Channel is just one more risk to them. They see the UK as worth it. Either we have to make it so the UK is not worth it, or we send everyone who comes via boat back to France.
Climate change and global instability caused by war means into migrants will try in greater numbers to reach the UK. We need a real solution to the issue that is palatable to the public and international law, otherwise we will see right wing extremism increase as they will be the only ones offering any solutions at all.

You can make significant grounds in reducing migrant crossing by allowing people to have their applications processed in any country that has a British Embassy.
The cost would be insignificant compared to the loss of life and the financial costs of housing the thousands that are arriving by boat each week.
I would somebody to explain to me why this can’t be done.
