Oh look the exact thing scientists and climate activists have been warning about for decades has come to pass.

This is all within farmers powers to fix imo.

Take a look at old OS maps of traditional farmland and you can see the amount of ditches and ponds they’ve filled in along with hedgerows removed.

After the 2nd world war the Gov gave them all subsidies to install land drains to make fields more efficient. No surprises to learn that most farmers never touched their land drains again and they’re now mostly silted up and not working correctly.

My own hilarious neighbouring farmer has filled a little valley in with soil 3 times over the past 3 years. Everytime it rains hard the soil gets swept out again along with his crops, he’s wasted thousands on it. OS map from 1885 tells you the answer, there was a stream there 200years ago and a stream keeps trying to be there again.

Climate change is one thing but it’s well within our capabilities of coping with it in this country. Except 90% of farmers are stuck in the past and refuse to adapt essentially because “that’s the way my dad did it”.

You mean on top of the ones lost due to being unable to plant because of the rain? Who would have thought climate change would have consequences and being affecting us now? It is a really Inconvenient Truth.
