Not just former head of the Army but an Adjutant Officer with the 1st Paratroopers Regiment that were involved in both the Ballymurphy Massacre and Bloody Sunday. I imagine there are families in Northern Ireland who will rightly feel that he never saw his day in court for their murders.
Also appointed chief of the general staff a month before the Iraq invasion and was in the role for three years.
