Good. The sport is in decline anyway. The final nail in the coffin was the Jake Paul vs Tyson fight last night. Time to move on to pastures new.

Tell ya what, we don’t need stuff like this, what we need are more vape shops and coffee shops

Maybe throw in an American candy shop

While this is sad, it does open up questions about their financial viability and proficiency. They have had 138 years to consider saving to buy a commercial plot in which to conduct their business, yet have rented instead. I wonder what was going on behind the scenes to choose to remain so at the whims of the commercial rental market?

138 years to buy a property, land or anything else. Short sighted business.

So the council wants £64,000 a year in rent for a 15 year contact  or £13,000 for a 5 year contact.

Reminder that Tyson Fury’s last fight paid him around £100,000,000.

The government can’t take on sole responsibility for the future of the sport.

138 years and never bought the place? What’s the news here?

I mean, the headline **sounds** terrible – the annual rent is going up by £60k a year.

Then you dig into the details, and the current rent is £110/year, based on a lease from **1957**.

The rent increasing that much for a commercial building really isn’t a surprise when it’s a 70 year increase.

Club just needs to raise more money from its members, or move.

No don’t you maean we need more Barbershops for men 90-% money laundering establishments, this country is a joke for some, but so hard for so many people 👤

If I was a millionaire I would buy the building and keep the rent at 1957 levels

A vital service for local kids and even adults. Keep fit, learn discipline and have fun.

Nah, let’s tank up the rent and wonder why more children are overweight or turning to gangs etc etc.

thats what you get when new comers take over the council and dont recognise the local working class traditions such as amateur boxing clubs with a peppercorn rent.

1 year from now it will either be a gastro pub named after a famous 19th century boxer or it will be a yuppie zumba gym.

Hopefully someone like AJ or Fury sees this and can offer some support 🤞

It should stay free – this is exactly what the council is meant to do.

If I was in charge I would subsidise all boxing/marital arts/sports – this helps create well rounded and contributing adults, parental figures and advice for kids who maybe dont have them and is a way out of gangs/causing trouble.

Have to train for 5 days a week and compete is a bit much though but if they have enough people up for it then sure.

Ask Jack paul for many he is a boxing star. Or this dude called Anton Joshua or something. They both loaded boxers.
