Is there such a thing as a ‘private Facebook post’?

Aren’t you putting things into the public domain by posting?

So person uses antisemitic language in social media post and gets arrested. What’s the news here?

How far we have fallen. Getting arrested for Facebook posts.

  4. I bet the don’t point out that someone was arrested in front of their child when it is an accused criminal they *don’t* support.

Pretty sure there is a lot more to this story than just this guys side of it.

On July 18, 2024, the CISI decided not to take any action, but just over a month later the police showed up at Mr Nathan’s front door to arrest him.

I’m guessing that he just ignored a warning and continued his anti sem stuff.

My personal view is that the specific use of the K-slur here shouldn’t be a police matter in the same way that Marieha Hussain shouldn’t have been, but a lot of people (both Jewish and gentile) have gotten awfully comfortable using absolutely vile language against Jews who politically or religiously disagree with them, and it’s probably not the worst thing to keep them on their toes.

Pretty clear that there was also an ongoing pattern of targeted harassment here as well.

How do the rest of you feel about this sort of thing?

Firstly I think directly threatening hate speech which is connected with real violence is bad.

Secondly I am getting more and more worried about people being arrested for what they post on social media, even throwaway remarks.

Imo free speech should trump almost all other concerns, it’s such an important fundamental right.

It feels like we’re on a slippery slope here and the big question is who gets to decide what is ok to say?

How much of a slur does something have to be before you can be arrested for it?

Defending free speech is like repairing the sewers, it’s disgusting work no one wants to do, but it’s critical to the good functioning of society.

I suspect there is more to the story. After all, the Daily Mail is hardly a reliable source.

According to the Daly Mail journalist, this boils down to one Jewish man calling another Jewish man *a ‘creep’, a ‘fake Rabbi’ and a ‘kapo boy’*.

They are of course insults, but I do not believe they should be sufficient to have someone arrested and placed in jail FFS.

Israel National News has a story on this: [https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/399282](https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/399282)

*Toby Young, Director of the Free Speech Union said: ”If it’s not a criminal offence for pro-Palestinian protestors to call for a global intifada, I don’t see how a Jew calling another Jew a ‘Kapo’ can possibly be against the law.”*

I find it particularly disturbing that a member of a race can be accused of racism for insulting another member of his same race.

Members of the black community, especially in the US but also in the UK, use a specific word to refer to themselves, that would be considered an unacceptable racial slur if a non-black person were to say it. Does this mean that a black person could have another black person arrested for using that word? Again, I find it deeply disturbing.

If you don’t wanna be arrested for using sectarian language, there’s a very simple solution..

Look at the way the Mail tries to spin this.

“In front of 12 year old daughter” – plea for outrage

“Private Facebook post” – attempt to minimise perceived harm

End result – push to make the reader take against the authorities/government and side with the accused
