I’m surprised our European friends haven’t stepped up defence of undersea infrastructure following the Nordstream sabotage a few years ago

Because Ireland can’t defend itself and relies on the UK to do so

Oh no. How will we survive without the 19th Century Telegraph cables that my Internet obviously runs on.

Strange as there has been a Russian spy vessel sat in the Irish channel

The sinking of any Russian asset is always a positive step for humanity

I’m not one for tit for tat but it might send a message if every time a under water data cable was mysteriously severed a Russian gas or oil pipeline was also equally mysteriously severed.

I’m curious as to exactly *how* they plan to defend under-sea infrastructure. It’s not like missile defence or standard war defence in that the threat is what is made out to appear a normal research ship (read: civilian) and presumably either dropping charges or sending down divers or micro subs. It feels a lot like trying to defend against terrorist attacks on the mainland but with groups far more competent and capable than your run of the mill extremists.

If Starmer could tell Putin that every time this happens another batch of Storm shadows will be sent to Ukraine that’d be great.

Lol…how? We’ve gutted our armed forces with rediculous budget cuts…now when they may be needed for a proper defence of our nation there’s precious few of them
