The Banks and housing companies have a huge monopoly on buying properties in the UK. I believe housing is a human right, and nobody should have to pay hundreds of thousands, not even tens of thousands, of hard earned money through wasted years of full time work. It’s not about “playing by the rules”. There should be no rules, that’s part of the problem. What do I propose? That all homes are “owned” by those who live there and there should be simply small fees to “rent” off the land on which the property stands on. Enough of this moneymaking scam which hurts our pockets. Reform the system before it reforms you.

Why is there all this could exclude so and so talk, RTB should be scrapped. It is failing to bring the dream of home ownership to those looking to buy. We shouldn’t be playing around with the dwindling house stock the councils still own.

Right to buy is one of the policies that gave Thatcher the electoral success she enjoyed in the 80s. As a Conservative it’s a great policy. The problem is successive governments have failed to build enough social housing the replenish the housing stock, and there are lots of houses left abandoned and boarded up – take a look at whole streets in Liverpool for example.

So RTB is basically scrapped…so no one can buy the Council property…so people carry on renting…for ever.
Everyone is focused on the RTB and the renting sector…but no one is talking about the fact no one can afford to buy a property…my kids and grandkids will never afford to buy in this Country…rents are going to go up even more.

Abolish right to buy, it’s just privatisation by another name. Has been the whole time.

Good. Scrap the whole damn thing. If tenants want to buy a home they can do so on the open market like everyone else.

They should keep right to buy but with a few conditions where everybody wins:
• Once sold only 20% of the profits are kept
– Profits received by the local authority must be spent on building social housing
• Can only buy a single social (council) house once in their life
• Cannot own another house (unless inherited)
– Must sell either the inherited or social housing within 12 months or an additional tax is added
• Only a reasonable discount is allowed (less than 50%)
• Flats are excluded
People who most probably will never own a home still have the chance, the local authoritys will still be bring in money that they have to use on making more housing.

The right to buy in Scotland ended 8 years ago, come on England it’s not that hard to just stop it all together.
