You’d probably get the same sentence for not paying your TV license. How do we allow for such lenient sentencing for explicit and vile crimes?

Over 1.2 million. A joke of a sentence.

Roughly one minute of jail time per image. Embarrassing

Impossible to phantom the amount of kids abused in order to create that many images.

Right, and fella burning garda car got 6 years…. Yeah all good as always 😂

Not to defend that lad from the Dublin riots but 6 years for buring out a cop car and less than half for child born, insane

If you collected every image I’ve ever gotten since getting a phone: camera, Snapchat, shared images in group chats I don’t think it approaches 1.2 million. That’s insane.

Barely a 1 minute sentence for each image
(33 months = 1.45 million minutes)

This person has got to be some sort of distributor. That’s an insane amount of data. I can’t think of any Star Trek/Star Wars/sci-fi fan needs that much dedicated hard drive space. Maybe for the entire household library? Mad. Hope they track down his suppliers/distributors.

He should be serving a custodial sentence for each individual image ffs. 1.2 millions years wouldn’t be long enough.

I wonder how much them photos would weigh in physical form.

It’s because he only downloaded/ consumed it but didn’t distribute. Clearly this will be a lesser sentence.
Although I’m not sure why the alcohol dependency was taken into consideration for sentencing. This should hardly have an impact on a crime like this.

Did he download a film frame-by-frame….or what happened….I know even one kid is bad,but the idea that upto 1.2 million kids were abused is horrendous

Imagine being the Guards that had to go through all of that.

I’ve noticed that this is making more and more news, or am I just noticing it more? Are these fucks getting caught out more, or is it just making news more regularly now?
From comments I’ve seen on other posts it seems as though this sort of thing is somewhat common in Ireland.

Mr O Dunlaing said his client “lives a solitary and pathetic existence”. He asked the court to have regard that there was no evidence that his client had produced or distributed any of the material found on the devices.
There is also no evidence that he did not produce or distribute these images.
Has the law changed years ago if you downloaded it you were as such producing it, in that it wouldn’t be on the computer if the individual didn’t seek it out, download load it and save it aka produced it. If any of these images were sourced via torrent files then he has distributed the material also.
What lead the Garda to his premises is it part of the international crack down or had come to their attention for reasons related to this crime.
Far to soft on the sentence, if the sentence was harsher 20plus years then those would be less likely to risk downloading that content, if less people download it then less innocent children are harmed producing this type of material.
I believe a bullet to the back of head is the best option for this rather than the expense of a custodian sentence.

Didn’t Simon Haris say he was going to be tough on crime?
