One thing I found surprising with this is that The Ditch announced in April 2023 that Web Summit would be providing them with €1m in funding over the next five years, but in November 2023 it was announced that they had cut ties and Web Summit would no longer be providing financial support. It seems odd that they basically paid out 2.5 years worth of funding in 6 months.

It’s mad how cosgrave uses his company money to fund his personal vendettas. His other minority shareholders surely should feel sickened at the company money being spent like this? He should have to pay tax on it, then use his personal money to fund his projects.

Wouldn’t be as much of a need for platforms like the ditch if we didn’t have such awful political accountability in this country

I’m still annoyed FG lost the Web Summit. What a loss
Also worth commending Cosgrave for putting his neck on the line last year in defence of Palestine, while also giving some credit to the Irish government when it was due.

Any time I see this prick, I think of the time he contacted my business and said, “Tell the CEO it’s Paddy. He’ll want to hear from me. ”
Firstly, our CEO was a woman, so he didn’t even Google that. Secondly, was he just calling businesses and asking the receptionist to contact the CEO and “tell him it’s Paddy,” and that’s how he makes connections?

Their a very good service for democracy whether you like their content or not. Traditional media would rather tell you about little Mary rose garden then tell you about how your local td misspent €110k of taxpayers’ money. Lots of wool being pulled over the eyes in Ireland.

The delusion that “having plutocrats who agree with me” funding social or traditional media will make the world a better place coming apart.
Plutocrats spending money to push their favoured media narrative has always been and will always be in the interest of he who spend that money, nonone else.
Musk, Cosgrave, Murdoch, whatever your having yourself.
