>For the first time in 72 years, Belgium’s First Chef is a woman: Laurence De Smet from Hof van Cleve won the prestigious prize at the beginning of this week . While women have been associated with cooking since time immemorial, gastronomy remains primarily a man’s world.
>”As soon as cooking becomes a job rather than a task, we enter men’s domain,” confirms Charlotte De Backer. As a professor of Communication Sciences (UA), De Backer studies the social aspects of food and our eating habits. The explanation for this apparent contradiction lies in the intention with which men and women start their cooking assignment.
>”When cooking for others, men and women place different emphasis. On average, women are more likely to take into account the preferences of others. They think about what their table guests like to eat.”
>”When men cook, it is often for a special occasion and they mainly want to go all out. They make dishes that are complex and impressive, or cook something that they like to prepare themselves,” says De Backer.

If it’s to make sustenance, it’s too mundane. It’s for women.
Add a competitive aspect to it, the concept of being famous – not for making something for sustenance, but for making something special for whatever subjective reason? Oh now it’s a men’s job.
For some reason, a lot of prejudices can be explained like that. It’s funny I was reading a post on r/TwoXChromosomes earlier today stating exactly that – the OP there just wanted to have fun, enjoy a work she likes, but men seem to specifically wish to make her experience miserable. I don’t really understand why myself, but comments explained it relatively like I put it above.

Can someone explain this professor about discrimination of women in the workplace?
