The problem with tackling hunting is it usually ignores the wider culture of rural areas. I lived at a big stable yard about 30+ horse owners and a lot of customers.

Usually the rhetoric around hunting focuses on “posh toffs” but I can assure you that it is not exclusive to them, people in all walks of lives were involved in hunting.

Why people hunt? Community, a club, fun, the thrill, someone they know owns the farm. A lot of rural people don’t care about the welfare of foxes, the same people attending hunts are sending their jack russels into animal holes on another weekend, shooting on another and helping kill moles on another.

I am not talking toffs I am talking working class people who are far removed from the concerns of the hunted animals welfare.

I know this country thinks we like to have good animal welfare, but we don’t teach this stuff in school we are relying on families and local communities to teach children how to love and care for animals.

People would be shocked to see how many dog owners and horse owners treat their pets.

You can’t just outlaw something and expect peoples perceptions to change. You need to educate them and look beyond the “posh toffs”.
