Perché molti venditori tedeschi si rifiutano di pagare tramite il sistema vinted, che è più sicuro di un oscuro metodo di pagamento con un perfetto sconosciuto?

possibly just to avoid transaction fees / reports to tax authority…

Either scammers dont want to use it obviously but the same goes the other way, enough people use these systems and then report not delivered or broken goods and force a refund. Systems protecting the customers gets abused by customers to scam sellers….

Everything I’ve ever bought from Vinted in Germany has been done outside the Vinted system, totally normal in my expeirence. I wouldn’t buy anything expensive outside of the system but for cheap stuff the risk isn’t really an issue for me.

You can avoid fees by just using paypal and most of the time it works. I have done this a dozen of times and I have not been scammed. In addition many people don’t always have the time to send shippings (maybe they are on vacation or smth). If someone just buys through the Vinted payment system, they are obliged to ship within a few days, otherwise their rating will drop. Hope that explains.

A lot of people came from Kleiderkreisel (German platform that then was merged into vinted) to vinted in German and are used to having just private interactions on Kleiderkreisel/Kleinanzeigen.

So it was normal for us. On the other hand using the system often leads to problems, for example:

    – you are answering somebody’s questions about a product or are bargaining with them, when somebody just suddenly hits the “buy”-button without communicating with you in any way – under the old Kleiderkreisel-Etiquette you then have to inform them that somebody else was interested before them and cancel the transaction and get an automatic negative review

    – people chose packages with delivery methods that don’t fit you or postal package prices that in reality are undoable

    – when people ask about buying something, seller can explain that yes, but they can only send in a week for example – if bought over system there is often no interpersonal connection and strict deadlines

    – a lot of people just didn’t want these platforms to become commercial

I think there are many more reasons, but buying outside the system or at least asking first, if it is okay to buy through the system is still very common in Germany

Edit: I have for sure sold and bought more than 500 items on vinted and Kleiderkreisel (I have a child, not a giant wardrobe 😀 ) over the last 10 years and out of these 500 times it was 3 times through the system – not using it is definitely the norm!

  6. These are often not private individuals but people who sell second-hand clothes as a business. In any case, they are trying to avoid fees & taxes. Online equivalent of restaurants who only accept cash. I always refuse this because as a customer I explicitly want the “Käuferschutz” and am not willing to bear the risk. These sellers should be reported to Vinted in my opinion.

I do it like this seller. Too many scams by buyers. Received a return package with scrap metal once and was forced to reimburse.

vinted will ultimately more often choose the buyer’s side and leave the seller without money AND item

I got downvoted on r/vinted when someone asked the same question.

    >We all know who I am referring to, don’t we?

Why we often don’t sell through the system? Well, because the vinted customer support is always in favor of the buyer, no matter the circumstances.

    * You have proof that you shipped the parcel, but the postal service lost it? Customer service will refund the money, even though it’s the buyer’s risk under German law.
    * You have proof that the parcel was delivered, but the postal service gave it to a neighbor or dropped it off somewhere in the multi story building? Customer service will refund the money, even though it’s the buyer’s risk under German law.
    * Buyer says, that “the color looked different on the photos because of different lighting? Well guess what … Customer service will refund the money, even though it’s the buyer’s risk under German law.
    * Buyer claims it a replica even though you have proof of purchase? You know what’s going to happen
    * The parcel arrives damaged? And the drama starts again.

And don’t get me wrong, I sell through the system, on different platforms like eBay, but just not on vinted because their refund policy is too exploitable by the buyer.

And to be honest, I as a German am also not happy that we got access to France and Italy, because now the entire marketplace is flooded with even more fakes and you cant even filter by country.

Also it is important to mention that vinted, ebay etc. have to report all transactions to the Finanzamt when you have more than 20 sales through the system per year.

Additionaly to everything mentioned, one seller told me that vinted wanted 20% of the price

  11. To many french scammers, who found a way to get the stuff and the money back over the vinted pay system. And vinted is doing nothing to help people or fix their system.

  12. Even as a buyer I don’t like the vinted system. Either I pay via PayPal with fees or PayPal friends if the seller seems trustworthy and the price is not too high. I can also communicate the delivery method + fees directly with the seller. Also the delivery methods that are recommended through the system sometimes seem very random. No I’m not paying 14,99 to have my 3 euro shirt delivered with UPS.

So that they could save some money for not paying the shipping costs. If the seller has good ratings and offers the product at a bit lower price including shipping, I often pay them via paypal. Never had any issue and never hope to have any.
