Ciao a tutti, ho scoperto la storia di un oggetto che ho ritrovato in un mucchio di rottami e che ritengo interessante. In genere, quando cerco di capire l’origine di un oggetto militare o di una persona in una fotografia, mi ritrovo in un vicolo cieco. Questa volta però il mio lavoro da detective ha dato i suoi frutti! Ho individuato l’origine di questo trofeo della maratona del 1912! Trofeo del secondo posto in argento sterling E Tornros. Gustaf del 1912 partecipò ai Giochi estivi di Stoccolma del 1912. Fu il campione della maratona nazionale di Stoccolma del 1912. Gustaf Edvard Törnros (18 marzo 1887-2 aprile 1941) è stato un maratoneta svedese. Gareggiò nella maratona alle Olimpiadi estive del 1906, 1908 e 1912 ottenendo come miglior risultato un quarto posto nel 1906.[2] La metà dei partecipanti, compreso Törnros, non riuscì a terminare la maratona del 1912 a causa del clima caldo con temperature superiori a 30 °C.[3][4] Törnros vinse il titolo nazionale di maratona nel 1911 e nel 1912.[5][6]
Si classificò secondo alla Maratona svedese di Helsingborg il 22 settembre 1912. This is an awesome find! I wonder how this ended up in a salvage pile?
If nothing else, I suspect the city of Sollentuna would consider keeping this around in their collections; that’s where the marathon track turned back, and they have a couple of markers erected to remember the occasion (one for the half-point, one for the Japanese man that went missing and finished the race ~50 years later).
Personally, I’d spend some time documenting it, and wait for hype to build the next time Stockholm tries to unsuccessfully bid for the Olympics in 5-10 years.
