So they signalled that it will be going ahead.
Will they tell us it’s on track when construction is underway.
Thank fuck for that. At least now it’s only a huge disappointment rather than completely pointless.
In unrelated news a town in Warwickshire has been renamed to London Euston.
The sooner they can get that place rebuilt the better! If only the Tory ministers hadn’t been so utterly incompetent micromanagers and stuck to [their own original plan](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/britain-to-have-new-national-high-speed-rail-network) HS2 trains should have been running from Euston by 2026.
Without the northern portion of HS2 it still feels very much like a half measure, although going to Euston does make sense.
Good to hear that we’ve progressed from a railway that runs from where people aren’t to where they don’t want to a railway that still takes people from where they aren’t, but at least now takes them roughly where they *do* want to be.
We should have built it in full… Then extended it to the south up to Scotland and all of Wales. We’re getting on for 200 years on the railways… I think any investment then has been fully paid back by now…. We’re not building it for now we’re building it for 100years time….
To many people looking at the short term savings with this…
More London centrism to go with the promotions of London MPs
Those huge billboards can still be used for adverts just more scenic ones. They should have soothing views of the UK on there and advertisers get their logos in the corner or a banner at the bottom.
Glad HS2 is likely headed to Euston, now can we get it to Crewe at the minimum
The funny thing is the other end there is no planned connection between Birmingham Curzon street terminus and the 3 Birmingham rail stations, some of which are 1.5km away.
Or the Birmingham interchange and the airport, which is even further. They are planning on just having busses, lol
So actually the existing rail link could still be faster in real world conditions. It’s a complete waste of time
As good as this decision is… the bigger one is about up to Crewe… That section was the more important one as that then helps with the congestion on the WCML…. which was one of the main points of HS2 in the first place
