> Those who have had their protection claims rejected and are not part of family units within the camp have been offered financial incentives to return to Sri Lanka. According to a letter to migrants, seen by the BBC, this will include £3,000, medical insurance for three years, accommodation for up to three years, plus a job or training or education opportunities.
I understand some don’t want to return to Sri Lanka where they say they face persecution, but 3k and three years of accomdation, employment and medical insurance is a pretty sweet deal. Presumably due to the news around this Sri Lanka would less likely do something silly for the PR reasons alone. But I don’t know, I don’t know much Sri Lanka.

If any are allowed to come to the UK, then you can bet more will start turning up in other overseas territories soon.
Anyway one of the main reasons suggested for giving these islands to Mauritius was to stop this kind of thing.

How odd. I was told on here that a benefit of handing over the islands was that these people would no longer be our problem. I wonder how long before the rest of the supposed benefits also turn out to be lies.

The idea this closes down an illegal immigration route is laughable – it’s fucking 1000 miles from Mauritius which is 1000+ miles from the mainland as well.

British Antarctica is a UK Overseas Territory. Any takers?
