CDU and CSU are committed to nuclear energy. In the event of an election victory in the federal election, the Union parties want to reactivate the nuclear power plants that were last taken off the grid.

The CSU wants to take a corresponding decision this weekend at its party congress in Augsburg. „The CSU demands the continued use and further development of nuclear energy! “, It says in the corresponding application, which is available to the Handelsblatt. The application commission recommends that the party congress approve the application.

„The last nuclear power plants have been shut down, but dismantling has not yet started “, said Sebastian Brehm, head of the CSU (MU) SME Union, the Handelsblatt. He had submitted the application with the MU. Framatome, a subsidiary of the French energy group Areva, has confirmed that five nuclear reactors „that have not yet been dismantled could easily reactivate and go back online as quickly as possible “.

At the end of September, the CDU and CSU had requested a „dismantling moratorium “ for the last shutdown reactors in the Bundestag.

Finally. Why is Germany lagging behind the rest of the word these days? It’s not just nuclear power, it’s everything. Defense, Russia, cars, et cetera.

Germany used to innovate, now it’s just following what the rest of the world is doing for ten years already. I guess it’s the immigrants. That seems to be the answer to all of our problems these days.

So much for the “too late now” comments we see every time the subject is raised here.

  4. the parties who caused most of germany’s problems announce intent to create more problems.

  5. As long as the providers pay for all this (including waste management and insurance) I’d be OK with this. Should be easy if nuclear power really makes sense economically.

It isn’t the infancy of nuclear age anymore. These plant systems are studied to death with multiple redundancies to make them safe for operation. We’re passing the avg 1.5 C threshold of global temperature rise folks. And we need as many alternatives to fossil fuels as possible online.

Now the question needs to he asked. What was the point of decommissioning them only to put them back online.

    Sure.

4 months ago their leader said that nuclear power is dead.

They will say that everyone gets a 4000% retirement benefit increase, a mansion and a puppy if it buys them two more votes.

It’s a fact that there’s no more active nuclear power plants in Germany. When do they and the nucular fanboys on r/europe suggest that new ones go online? 2070? Flamanville 3 and Olkiluoto 3 took 18 years just to build. Not including planning. On existing plants.

And while Germany was crucified for buying Russian gas – which it stopped within 7 months – where does the European reactor fuel come from, again?

    Good news!

Shutting down nuclear power was a very bad decision for the environment.
