Grazie.

Bad translation. Bøssebærer means a carrier of a can of sorts to collect money in, specific for charitable causes. Looks like it is mistaken as «børse», which is a norwegian word for firearm.

Bad translation. The algorithm has taken the word “bøsse” and assumed it was the word “børse”

Bøsse is a sealed/locked container used for the collection of money, while børse is an old rural slang word for gun/rifle.

Bøssebærer is a person going door to door with said container to collect money for a charitable cause.

That’s definitely a bad translation. There’s a charity drive every year done by NRK, and bøssebærere are the people going door to door with the money collection tubs.

They have a big thing each year where people walk around with “bøsser” (fund raising boxes) and raise money for different organizations each year. Volunteers walk around and knock on people’s doors to collect money. This year for the children’s cancer foundation. The mistranslation is from the old word Børse which translates to gun.

Yes this is how we do charity in Norway. We show up at people’s door and hold them at gunpoint till they donate….

Nah for real though as others said its a mistranslation.

The issue here, bøsse. Is an older danish/norwegian word for gun/rifle/shotgun.
