Real questions to answer for Stanley now.
If he feels that his counter complaint should have been referred to the Gardaí then why did he neither report it to Gardaí or even to Sinn Féin (until a complaint was made about him?).
Why did he approach his party leader worried about a complaint being made about him, but not inform her of the nature of that anticipated complaint?
Why did he await the preliminary report before raising concerns and withdrawing from the process? He had legal advice during the entire process, was he not informed by bus legal team during the process that the procedures were flawed?
Why did he not resign from his chairpersonship of the PAC while he was under investigation? Does he think it’s appropriate for the chairperson of the PAC to be under investigation?
It’s Stanley who brought this into the political arena, he can’t go complaining about the use of Dáil privilege here. He has raised questions publicly, but doesn’t appear to want to provide the public with the information necessary to make a judgment on them.

I think the real issue here is why SF only referred the matter to the Gardai once Stanley resigned from the party. There was either a criminal offence disclosed or not.
If so, why did SF not disclose it to Gardai immediately… this explanation about an internal enquiry is worrying.. SF have no business investigating criminal matter, whatever justification they try and use for it.
If there was no criminal offence disclosed, then why was it referred to Gardai. It looks like an effort on the part of SF to stifle discussion about the topic by referring to a ‘garda investigation’. Also has the appearance of attempting to blacken Stanley’s name. Underhand tactics by SF.
Either way, SF has questions to answer. Stanley may have his own questions to answer, but that’s a separate matter. SF shouldn’t be allowed to deflect questions about their own conduct by pointing at him.
