Whenever I see the anger around tube drivers salaries , I’m certain nobody actually thinks things through before they unleash their fury.
I reckon most people just think ‘all they’re doing is throwing a few switches, why is the pay so high it’s not fair’
Tube drivers allow Londoners (the only people in the country that actually make the money keeping the whole country afloat) to get their jobs done. Without them, the capital comes to a standstill , and we’re all fucked. It’s a FAR more productive job than most people can claim to have.

Entirely predictable – if you start giving some unions above inflation pay rises – the rest will make similar demands.

The tax, and commuting costs of those on 26k will pay for their raise.

Well there’s a surprise. I mean, it must’ve been at least a week since their last payrise.

I understand that it inconveniences people when they strike but, if they can get more money added to their annual salary for what they do, I say go for it.

This is getting silly and performative
Train strikes originally were meant to be about the horrible working conditions, not about pay, which train drivers already have a lot of.

They get paid far too much as it is. Automate the trains
Fair play to them. Other unions should take notes, looking at you Nurses

Half of the stuff you mentioned here would have to be bought anyways.

Look forward to the day we can have an automated system across the network. In Singapore, I experienced delays about 3 times in 5 years. (cancellations and strikes, never).

Cause once again the Tube’s on strike
The greedy bastards want extra pay
For sitting on their arse all day
Even though they earn ~~30k~~ 60k

Everyone loves a union until they start taking the piss and holding the service to ransom.
Let’s be real, a tube driver shouldn’t earn more than a nurse or teacher (say 40-50k). And yet BASE pay was 52k in 2018…

Labour will mess around for 6 months trying to negotiate a smaller pay rise, before giving in and giving them what they asked for at the start. Then we’ll start this whole charade again in Autumn 2025. They have the best unions in the country and they’ll milk that cow for all it can give. Doesn’t matter if they actually deserve what they’re asking for.

>Mr Brennan said the offer would leave members on a lower salary than drivers on other TfL services, such as the Elizabeth line and Overground.
I don’t think that’s unreasonable, if anything I’m shocked that TfL doesn’t have a standard salary framework for all train services in it’s remit.
A tube drivers’ salary *starts* at over ~~£70k~~. Why can’t we automate the trains?
Edit: Salaries are as follows according to TfL.
T021 £58,021 3,208 employees
FoI request last year shows >2648 employees earn more than >70k
