Why should companies that have exclusive access to customers based on where they live geographically, get to use the Competition and Markets Authority, when they have no competition and their customers can’t choose another supplier on the free market?

Any business based on supplying a critical need, a human necessity, should not be able to profit such as the waterm companies all have.
They have a monopoly over the supply of water, reap absolutely absurd levels of profit from doing so while also letting the infrastructure crumble and pollute waterways with huge amounts of waste.
It shouldn’t be allowed, should be treated as the scandal it is and those at the top held to account – but I’d settle for them all falling to nationalisation and _then_ we might finally see things improve.

Time to take the companies off their hands. Greedy wankers.

I think that properly run there are many sectors that are better off in private hands.
Utilities aren’t one of them.
What’s been allowed to happen is absolutely appalling, now that we know about it we/the Government should be making plans to slowly bring these companies back under State ownership.
Start by enforcing existing regulations properly and invest in doing so. Let Thames fail if there’s no investor appetite to save it and bring it back under State control.
The population in the U.K. will continue to increase and we need to ensure the infrastructure is in place to do this.

Fucking nationalize them already, jesus christ. Why do we let these charlatans dump piss and shit in our water, fail to build any infrastructure, then take out huge loans to pay themselves and their shareholders, before begging poverty and demanding handouts? Nationalize them.

I find it absurd essential services like water, power, communication, transport have ever been put in the hands of private businesses.
The fact they constantly prove they will run those services at the poorest standard they can get away with, while extracting every penny of value they can shows they are not fit to the task.
After decades of running a failing service, whilst paying themselves and their shareholders huge amounts of money at the public expense and now crying when they are being held to even a basic level of decency I’ve absolutely no sympathy for them.

Why are we still entertaining these greedy , shareholder based companies ? Water is a basic human necessity, not a profit maker. Nationalisation is what’s needed.
