    >’All the files mentioned have been examined dozens of times. Unfortunately, there is apparently a canon of lies that always comes back.’ For example, Bart De Wever defended his real estate policy in election interviews with De Morgen and De Standaard. But guess what? De Wever hides behind non-existent audits and a failed investigation by the Antwerp Integrity Bureau.

    >was published in De Morgen On October 11, an interview with Bart De Wever (N-VA) . To a question about the book The Friends of Real Estate by Apache founder Tom Cochez and David Leloup , about the close relationships between real estate and (Antwerp) politics, he answered:

    >“I have nothing to hide. All files mentioned have been examined numerous times. Unfortunately, there is apparently a canon of lies that always comes back.”

    >A day later, De Wever made it clear in an interview with De Standaard which “numerous” examinations he meant:

    >“An audit from the city checked the construction files, Audit Flanders checked them. The integrity office has visited. Even the public prosecutor’s office was here: after six months I got everything back because they had found nothing.”

    >The Antwerp mayor’s claim received no response and that is a shame. The readers of De Morgen and De Standaard were entitled to the truth the day before the municipal elections. Apache made inquiries with the relevant service. And guess what? If somewhere a canon of lies always recurs, it is in the mouth of the Antwerp mayor who invariably calls Apache a slanderous medium.

    >Apache requested the audit “to which the mayor refers” from the Antwerp Internal Audit Service. This concerns Process Audit Permits A016011 . Contrary to what De Wever says, this does not deal with concrete controversial construction files, but appears to be a workload measurement of the department that issues permits.

    >The Internal Audit department also states “that to our knowledge no audit was carried out by Audit Flanders”. Apache also asked that question to Audit Flanders itself. The answer from Administrator General Mark Vandersmissen is clear: “I can confirm that we have not carried out an audit of construction files at the city of Antwerp.”

De Wever is therefore hiding behind audits that do not exist and behind a failed investigation by the Integrity Bureau.
