      There’s lots of towns across the country with similar policies.

      I don’t mind having posters up. We have very short campaigns here. I do want them taken down promptly afterwards.

      God I wish we had this nationwide.
      For those complaining about the 0.1% who don’t have internet, a newspaper or tv, just have a board in each town that says the election date and has posters from each candidate… Maybe even a limit on the size of the photograph of the candidate so they have to put real points onto the poster.

      It’s the same here in Portarlington. No posters of any sort can be put on poles inside the 50km speed limit.

      Well the only way they could pull this off, was the keep their town on a tight Laois.

      I saw an interview with the woman who was involved in it, she went on about how nice the lamppost were and how the posters were a blight on them etc. She sensibly switched to a visibility argument afterwards.

      If I am being honest the posters are a minor annoyance, they are cleared within days of an election. Not having posters so you admire the lampposts seems kinda crazy and it reeks of tidy towns committee/homeowners association type sentiment. I am all for having pride in a local area but this sort of thing attracts a very controlling personality.

      Absolutely ridiculous form of “campaigning” in the year 2024.

      Not only is it an assault on the senses, it’s also a constant reminder about the hatred for most of these politicians, their parties and their absolute eyesore election tactics.

      Is it illegal to take them down ?

      The Greens have tried to ban posters a number of times unsuccessfully, the issue is the larger parties with big budgets can drown out the smaller ones and turkeys never vote for Christmas. But if all Tidy Towns groups could get together and ban them in their towns we might get to a near country wide ban anyway, which would be great!

      I wish my town was. In this Internet age I don’t see the need for them.
