Just heard them quoted there on the news “Run the government like a business”. I dread what they actually mean by that, how that will look. Businesses generally aren’t democratic places.

This is a pity, because I thought the Independents seemed pretty sensible (relatively) on the RTE debate. This amateur hour type of policy gives zero trust that they could do anything to actually support people.
I would rather one Luas that goes through *every county*. One loop constantly in motion that passes by your door once a day. You miss it – tough luck!

funny words coming from a party that is so unbelievably car-brained that they’d be out with residents protesting and objecting if any of the bigger parties tried to push it through

What is the obsession with Luas rather than building underground for metros and the like? Seems short sighted.

So they’ll reduce taxes and spend a shit load of money. And create roadworks in every large town in Ireland for the next 15 years.
I mean I knew they were fucking eejits but I didn’t think they’d put it in writing.
The first mainstream party that says they’ll refuse to even talk to these clowns about forming a government will get a higher preference from me.

The independent drive is doing my nut in.
You’ll end up with nothing because they won’t be able to provide a stable government with *anyone*. At least with the other smaller parties you at least have a chance of a coalition
Here lads they don’t even understand the meaning of the word Independent.

Their whole manifesto is like something an auld lad stuck to a barstool would be spouting after a few jars. Anything they offer is essentially bullshit; they oppose anything to do with enviromentalism; throw a few punches downwards at the poor, immigrants, and IP applicants; and the usual pandering is made to ‘front line’ / ‘hard’ workers and farmers.
Hugely anti-environment, by the way. Like, not even just green taxes. They want to
* freeze and ‘reform’ carbon tax
* conduct verge cutting year-round
* oppose any mandatory cull of the national herd and fight any derogation increase.
* ‘renegotiate’ quotas for Irish fishing vessels
* freeze all ‘green taxes’
* ensure no farmer will be forced to re-wet their lands or be affected by adjoining holdings undertaking re-wetting (effectively outlawing the practice)
* implement 21-day notice before farm inspections
* remove carbon tax on marked gas oil sold to the agricultural sector including agricultural contractors
* ensure continuation of live export markets and oppose EU policies that threaten them
* ensure any future proposed environmental scheme is not taken out of CAP budget
* ‘re-engage’ with EU on regulations in forestry sector
* protect the right of individuals to cut turf
* “ensure all climate policies reflect Irish realties” – like the climate gives a shit
* ‘rural-proof’ all public policy, including climate policy (whatever the fuck that means)
* freeze and review all fuel excise taxes
* Reverse ‘harmful policies’ that put ‘unfair constraints’ on farmers and fishermen/fisherwomen
* “Abandon the unachievable and destructive ‘net-zero’ agenda”
This is all aside from the vast promises of money, rebates, offsets, etc. etc. etc. that are promised to farmers.
A vote for this crowd is essentially a vote to finally kill off the ecology of Ireland.
