I don’t get it. Why is this not considered something as common good ie public in essence?
People can pay for other providers if they want.

Predicting lots of layoffs and price increases once this happens. As if it’s not already absurdly expensive to post a small first class letter.

Letter mail is a dying business in a dying market. Let it die gracefully. The state has no part to play in prolonging that agony.

You can even be the last person to post a letter but make sure you save up for the cost of that final stamp. Its going to need to fund the entire operation and redundancy cost for every last person in the firm.

Otherwise let someone, anyone, consolidate this business with their own cash and delay the inevitable demise a few more years.

Is there a single privately owned-public service that hasn’t gone to complete shit?

“Foreign swoop” – it was sold off to American profiteers years ago!!

Canada owns our National Lottery. France owns our electricity. The Netherlands own our trains, and now a Czech will own our postal system.

When will we learn, selling off to private and foreign interests just ruins this country.

Shock doctrine in effect at home.

Such services can be ran far more efficiently by a state – a failure of a state to do so is a failure of government not of the structure of public ownership. For god’s sake even the US knows this with parcel and mail delivery

Royal Mail can’t get any worse than it already is. A close friend worked there for 30 years and admitted that all he did was turn the lights on when he arrived at work and turned them off when he left. Now enjoying his ca.50k per annum pension.

Because privatisation has worked so well with other utilities.

How long until they decide that 2nd class doesn’t pay enough? Or that first class means”within 28 days?” Or that £900,000,000,000 is a suitable amount of debt for the company to have to pay out dividends? Or that folks in the countryside cost too much to get to, and that they’ll close those services? Or mandatory junk mail with every letter?

This government is genuinely useless. This is one of those few cases where heavy state intervention would be good. Instead Labour allows a vital national service to be sold off to foreigners

Fuck it. Just give it to Musk..may as well fuck us entirely and watch the chaos that ensures.

Why not sell the NHS off to some rich twat who will run it into the ground and flog off to their mate whilst they are at it?

Why are they doing this? Privatisation does not work for things like this.

Years in the making. Watch him slice the company up once he’s through the door. GLS and Royal Mail’s parcel business will go one way (His way) and the letters will be left to wither on the vine and handed back to the government or worse, just left to collapse.

He is also part of the governments green energy targets which is another reason this take over is being allowed to take place.

Does that mean that when there is an excess of mail such as Christmas are we going to find a lot of cards dumped in the nearest river.
