Is this Birmingham like Detroit? Is it safe?

I know this area very well as used to work in Ladywood. My only surprise is it made the national news. There would be gang shootings all the time. Only time it was widely reported was when a bystander or kid was hit.

It’s cleaned up a lot recently but some proper scary folk down that way
