Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will go to Moscow next year for the official celebrations of the end of World War II in Europe, which Russians commemorate on May 9. The Prime Minister confirmed this today on social networks. President Vladimir Putin officially invited him to visit. Fico “accepted with pleasure” the invitation.

Fico should be the first representative of Slovakia to come to the Kremlin for an official visit since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Other Western leaders do not go to Moscow either. In July, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met Putin in Moscow.

In a status posted by Fico today, the Prime Minister highlights the role of the Red Army and the Soviet Union in defeating fascism and winning the brutal World War. According to him, the citizens of the Slovak Republic “remember with reverence and respect all the anniversaries and events connected with the liberation of our territory by the Red Army in 1944-1945, as well as the help that the former Soviet Union provided to the SNP”.

The prime minister also says the government stands by the legacy of the fight against fascism and also the “historical truth” about World War II and the role the Red Army played in it.

“This is also why in 2025 the Slovak government will take over the auspices of organizing several events that will culminate in the May celebrations of the victory over fascism. In the spirit of the above, it is natural that, as Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, I am eminently interested in participating in the official celebrations of the victory over fascism, which will take place on May 9, 2025 in Moscow. Therefore, I was pleased to accept the official invitation of the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin to participate in these important celebrations, which I will do,” added the Prime Minister.

  2. And stay there, that way you won’t need your strings attached anymore.

He is an obvious collaborant with a war criminal. Our citizens know it.

“Historical truth”. How to say you never read ru/soviet history books without saying it.

Also in his universe red army included only russians I guess.

    Absolutly disgusting and outraging.
EU really should stop accepting such traitors as Orban & Fico et consortes.

Nice! We need more western leaders willing to have a dialogue!

Breaking News: Fico took his own life by jumping out the window on the 10th floor.

Is he fucking crazy? Communism in post soviet countries has stopped them from development for 45 years.

  11. Healthy_Bag4703 on

That’s good. It’s important to keep dialogue and cooperation open in these difficult times.

    Bro, what the fuck.

Like, seeing this happening in the West is really bad, seeing this happening in ex-Soviet bloc countries is like putting bleach in your eyes

  13. Even Orban didn’t have the audacity to go for the May 9 parade, but he does

  14. We desperately need a EU reform.. it’s obvious some states and their people have no interest in western values. We need to stop drip feeding them money AND protection with NATO. Since they OBVIOUSLY don’t leave themselves. There’s countries that deserve spots more than any other.

The fact we’re all legitimately supporting this shit with cash and protection is infuriating. I wouldn’t be surprised if additional billions go directly into Putins pockets with all the enclaves they have inside the EU and NATO now.

Keep the door open without unnecessary bureaucracy in case some people come to their senses.

Putin is in the mood to have his butt kissed. The left cheek will be handled by Fico, everyone knows the right one is reserved for Orban’s greedy lips

I am trying to figure out what some of these Eastern European countries like Hungary and Slovakia. Do they really want to move out of the EU and back into Russia sphere of influence? I can’t imagine. These people have popular support so I need to understand why they would support a weaker ukraine under russian influence. Do they really believe that russia just stops there and all is good?

Fico, Orban and possibly Romania (Calin) are enough reasons EU should not even consider accepting Serbia in the near future

All the EU money into those counties just for them to go to Moscow to suck some dictator dick.

Fico fica por lá. European leaders not under Putin mandate need to start changing their speech to the masses and change the way they play the game of politics, otherwise the turn to populist right wing governments is around the the corner.

This seems like an excellent moment to freeze all EU funds flowing into Slovakia. Something the EU is too cowardice for with Hungary.

It’s fairly simple. Putin = our (=Europe’s) enemy, and we’re in an indirect war with Russia, whether you like it or not. If you’re talking to our enemy behind our backs, I don’t see why tax payer’s money from wealthier European countries that thought you were part of the same union, need to flow to you any more.

Can they keep him? Like pretend we’re outraged, but just let them keep him prisoner.

  22. Good, keep him and his followers can go too.

At least we could breathe freely again in this communist forsaken country…

  23. adrian-cucuiet on

We should not forget that Slovakia was Czechoslovakia not too long ago, and was split by force, by russia when they chose freedom.

Putin wants to weaken the EU because he can’t stand not to be the strongest country on the continent. And he is succeeding.
