As someone who lives in Austria and has been to other european countries I feel like Armenia is absolutely one of the safest countries in my opinion. The only place that felt safer was UAE

Numbeo is self-reported. I know that it’s how the table is presented – so not a dig at OP – but I think a better way to frame it would be “Armenia perceived as #8 safest country”.

Armenia is actually safe, not just on paper. But I’m not sure if it’s safer than Japan 🙂 There are different definitions of safe, of course. For example, leaving your valuable stuff while visiting a toilet at a restaurant is also part of the safety, in my opinion. There’s a good chance that nothing will be stolen in Armenia, but I wouldn’t be completely confident. In Japan people causally do this all the time.
